Money Flows to Promising Programs
As a graduate student, I took a course in public relations, and one phrase grabbed my attention more than anything in the entire textbook: “Money flows to promising programs, not to needy institutions.” I have thought about this statement hundreds of times in my career and have shared it with others many times. Is your Christian school a promising program, or a needy institution?
Promising programs, regardless of enrollment or budget, are mission-driven; they know what God has called them to do. They understand that every decision they make must not only complement the Word of God but also clearly reflect it. They seek staff who have a passion for students, their subject area, and leading students to a deep, personal relationship with Christ. Promising programs are led by Godly leaders who are not only committed to our unique philosophy of education, but also “prophets” of it. From the youngest student to the oldest grandparent, everyone knows the school’s mission and is shaped by leadership that moves it forward.
However, some fall into the “needy institution” category. This can be true for schools, churches, missions, camps, and other once-promising programs. All started with the same clear goals, dreams, and passion. Yet somewhere along the path they got distracted, yielded to pressures, or even worse – fell into sin.
It is not only money that flows to promising programs, but quality staff, new students, leaders, and donors. Everyone wants to be on a winning team and will sacrifice their energies and resources to make it successful.
